Brugge
Brugge weekends
Bruges (known locally as Brugge) is one of Belgium's most popular tourist destinations, mainly because of its attractive buildings and canals.
Dominating the market square (Markt) is the 83m-high belfry (bell-tower). The lower sections were built in the 13th century, and the octagonal top part was added in the 15th century. The city used to store its charter of rights here in medieval times.
Two of the most popular souvenirs you can buy in Bruges are Belgian chocolates and lace. Belgian food is well-known for its quality, so if you have time you can enjoy a meal in one of the restaurants, perhaps some mussels washed down with some Belgain beer ... ?

Our coach departs at 10.30am on Friday for the short sea crossing to Calais. There will be time on board for a meal or relax in one of the lounges. After departing Calais it is a short drive into the centre of Brugge where you check into a 3* hotel for two nights bed and breakfast.

Brugge is one of Europe's most appealing cities approximately 2,000 years old and is known as the ' Venice of the North '. Historic buildings abound and restaurants, bars and shops await you.

There is plenty of time to explore Brugge or you can relax in one of the many bars or even take some time to try the amazing choice of chocolates!

For a panoramic view of the city you can climb the ' Belfry ' - another landmark of the city. During Friday evening you can choose from many places to eat before returning to the hotel.

On Saturday at 11.00am, after having your included breakfast, there is an optional £5.00 per adult visit to Ypres, famous at the cntre of intense battles during the First World War.

We take you to the ' Tyne Cot ' Cemetery - the worlds largest Commonwealth war cemetery. During the British offensive of 1917, tens of thousands of soldiers died in this area. Today, nearly 12,000 soldiers lay here in immaculate surroundings.

The travelling the short distance to Ypres there will be time to explore and have a meal. The ' Cloth Hall ', an exact copy, rebuilt after the war, the Gothic style ' St Martins ' Cathedral and the ' Menin Gate '.

Since 1928 the Last Post has been sounded underneath the Menin Gate in remembrance of unknown soldiers.

We shall depart Ypres at approximately 9.00pm to travel back into Brugge. Sunday sees us making the return journey to Calais, stopping en route for a coffee break and also a duty-free warehouse in Calais before our short sea crossing to Dover - arriving back to the Hastings area late evening on Sunday.
